 History of Our Business

Pit Happens Catering started back in 2004 when I moved back to town from College and joined the Brainerd Jaycees We became very active in the Brainerd Jaycees Streetfest and smoking Ribs. The smiles on people's faces and when people would come back for seconds was awesome. we went on to compete nationally at other events winning over 20 awards for Ribs, Brisket, pork, and chicken. 

After so many people asking If we had a business we got licensed and certified by the state of Minnesota in 2016, and that's where the next chapter started. We are a small business of friends who share the same passion for the old school way of smoking meats, cheeses, seafood, and deserts and incorporating them into new world dishes. 
The community voted us as #1 for bringing a fun outgoing group of staff, We love giving back to our supported organizations within and Brainerd Lakes Area and shopping Locally sourced products to create dishes that are unique to the Brainerd Lakes Area, and of course the secret Rib recipe! 

We are unique because we are willing to go outside the box on creating smoked dishes that aren't traditional, we take an almost an avant-Garde approach in respect to art, culture and society to our dishes we create.

The Chef

My name is Adam Peterson, I have trained and been taught by some of the biggest names in BBQ. From Myron Mixon down in Unadilla, Georgia learning how to bring Georgia sweetness to cooking and carving whole hogs, pork ribs, chicken, beef brisket, and pork shoulders. Also learning from the master class teaching of Aaron Franklin of Franklin BBQ in Austin, Texas. To help bring more training of the ways of Texas BBQ. Bringing all of the unique flavors and methods to the Brainerd Lakes area to provide the community with new food options is our goal. Pit Happens Catering has won over 20 awards competing in BBQ.
